Cooke Grad’s Soaring to New Heights!

Six Cooke SKILLs Students Accepted to the Melissa Riggio Higher Education Program!

Cooke is pleased to announce that all six of our Cooke SKILLs applicants have been accepted to the Melissa Riggio Higher Education program.

Cooke’s transition team did a wonderful job preparing them and helping then to get their applications ready. We are so proud of these students for and we celebrate them and this
shining accomplishment!

AHRC New York City’s Melissa Riggio Higher Education, is college based and designed to prepare individuals, over age 21, with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities, to become competitively employed and purposefully engaged in their communities.

  • This program offers:
    higher education coursework
    career exploration and preparation
    self-awareness and socialization

Students in this program are exposed to individualized academic, vocational, community and social experiences. They take specialized college classes, based on their abilities, and have the same opportunities for social and personal growth as other young adults who attend college.

This two-year program is an excellent follow-up to the extensive preparation that Cooke provides our students as they transition into adult life. This fully adult environment offers our students the opportunity to have first hand exposure to college life.
The first Cooke SKILLs class was accepted to the Melissa Riggio Program in 2009 and it has been an excellent opportunity for our students to pursue their interests, develop their skills and expand their social networks as they pursue their goals of attaining higher education.
