What is a CSA?

CSA allows city residents to have direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by regional farmers. When you become a member of a CSA, you’re purchasing a “share” of vegetables from a regional farmer.  If you become a member of CCA’s CSA, you will receive a share of the weekly harvest of the Norwich Meadow Farms. Through this CSA, affiliated with Just Food, we are re-creating the direct link between the farmer and consumer, giving consumers fresh and more wholesome organic foods.

A CSA is not like shopping at the supermarket. Your weekly share will be comprised of fresh organic vegetables (and fruits or eggs if you choose to purchase additional shares) grown in season and picked just prior to delivery. The quantity and variety of items in the share will vary from week to week depending on the weather. You will learn to enjoy a wider variety of seasonal vegetables. The quantity of food varies based on the harvest (there is risk involved), but we usually receive between 5 and 8 items per week.  Potential produce may include, but is not limited to: Regular Vegetable Share: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, winter squash, potatoes, carrots, greens of all kinds (think kale, chard, spinach), cauliflower; Fruit Share: peaches, plums, apples, pears

Weekly deliveries TBD from September 21-November 2 (8 weeks)

Pick up will be from 9:30am-11:30am on Wednesdays or Thursdays

What are the benefits of joining Cooke’s CSA? *NEW THIS YEAR*
  • Eat locally and healthfully
  • Staff: Pick up your groceries at work! Families: Have your child bring home your groceries! Community members: Get to know people with disabilities!
  • Give business to a local farmer
  • Most importantly, help CCA students learn how to manage a community initiative, cook fresh and healthy produce, and learn about sustainability in the context of math and science.
  • Ms. Manzo’s LC-Southwell science class will be joining the distribution efforts!
  • We are expanding the CSA to the wider SoHo/West Village community. If you know of anyone who lives near CCA and would like to pick up their fresh produce directly with the students at a farmer’s market style setup, please spread the word!

Becoming a member/pricing

In order to sign up to receive fruit or eggs, you MUST first become a member by signing up to receive a Vegetable Share (you cannot order only a fruit or egg share on its own).

Type of Share Cost per week Approximate Total
Single* Vegetable Share $17.75/week $142
Single Fruit Share $12/week $96
Egg share $5.25/week $42

*single shares feed approximately 2 to 3 (sometimes 4) people. If you are a household of 1 or 2 and would like to split a share, please register as a pair or indicate on the registration form that you are interested in splitting a share (we can try to pair up members).  The pair can choose to alternate weeks or physically split the share each week.
