Thanks to a partnership with YPO (Young Presidents Organization) and Strategic Group CEO Brett Rogoff, Cooke SKILLs students were hosted by Chef Ralph Scamardella of Tao Downtown, for a special sushi making demo.
This event paired our students with CEO’s from various organizations, who graciously volunteered to partner with Cooke for this once in a lifetime experience. The students and CEO’s learned the steps to making sushi, in one of the most prestigious restaurants in New York City!
It was a great time and Cooke would like to sincerely thank Brett Rogoff and his team at Strategic Group for facilitating this opportunity and special thanks to the CEO’s who volunteered their time to this event, and ofcourse we are grateful to the chefs at Tao who gave their time and shared their expertise to make this an unforgettable experience for our students.
Cooke Parent and Author Featured on the TODAY Show!
Cooke parent and author Judith Newman was recently featured on the TODAY show for the release of her new book “To Siri with Love”. This book chronicles the life of an average autistic child and how they interact and communicate in the world. She referenced her son, Gus, who uses Apple’s personal assistant “Siri” to help him to improve his ability to engage in conversations.
“Siri talks to Gus like a human but has the patience of a machine”, Judith said. This artificial intelligence technology has enabled Gus to have more common interactions with people and has given him the confidence to start and maintain conversations with people around him. Judith decided to write this book after having a breakthrough experience of reading an article which explained all the things that Siri could do and she further discovered that this form of technology could be the bridge to communication for her son and many others.
In 2014, Judith wrote an article about Gus’ unique friendship with Siri for the New York Time, which went viral. While this book is inspired by Gus experience with this technology, Judith also wrote it with the goal of encouraging others to find ways to incorporate people living with autism into the community.
