Brighter Futures Begin at Cooke!

It All Starts with Admissions

The admissions season leading up to the 2022-23 school year has been great! As students continue to settle into our new, modern facility on Madison Avenue, word has spread about their experience throughout the city. This year, Billy (Director of Admissions) and Gail (Associate Director of Admissions) have offered weekly in-person tours to prospective families and education professionals. The response has been overwhelming.

Cooke had a record number of application inquiries this year! We will welcome approximately 50 new students into Cooke this fall.  Most will be entering our K-12 program, but we’re also proud to add a few new faces into Transitions on MacDougal Street.

Whether a child is entering Kindergarten, 5th grade or high school, parents are always thinking about what’s next and perhaps concerned when figuring out special education options. We thought we’d share a bit of hope and give some insight into a child’s future at Cooke. Here’s a video clip of LJ, a Transitions student who has been with Cooke since Kindergarten. We think you’ll agree that his future looks bright!

We continue to have a limited number of seats available, but if you know a family that still needs a school for their child, please encourage them to contact us at admissions@cookeschool.org or register for a tour online. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

STEAM Night at Cooke: May 25, 6-7PM (via Zoom)

STEAM Night is an opportunity for the Cooke community to come together to engage in activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Middle and upper school students learned about the concept of STEAM in their classes. Now, Cooke families are invited to learn view those STEAM classroom projects.

Past STEAM night activities have included: coding, lego, robots, construction projects, designing paper airplanes to maximize flight, creating homemade obstacle courses, and the classic egg drop challenge. Join us on Wednesday, May 25th at 6PM on Zoom to see this year’s activities. Zoom link will be shared close to the event date.

Cooke Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Culture

Since 1992, the month of May has been dedicated to commemorating and recognizing the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans  (AAPI) to U.S. history, culture, and achievements. At Cooke, we’re shining a spotlight on AAPI authors and stories. Check out our virtual library with an emphasis on #ownvoices and accurate/respectful representation.

Here are some additional resources that may be useful for learning:

  •  NYPL has compiled a wonderful collection with descriptions of each book.
  •  Imagination Soup is another resource for book lists that represent various AAPI countries and areas of the world.
