On Thursday, April 18th, the Vocational Services department and the junior class hosted an activity-based Internship Fair for Cooke Academy students. The juniors prepared informational videos about our six types of internships at CA and prepared to lead the rest of the school in job tasks commonly featured in our animal care, child care, clerical, culinary, maintenance, and retail internships. On Thursday morning, our 9th, 10th, and 12th graders rotated through our six rooms to practice 25 different job tasks and record their preferences for activities like scooping kitty litter and sweeping floors. The event was a great opportunity for juniors to demonstrate their leadership skills and for our whole school to think about their work preferences for the future.
Dana Pelerin joined Cooke this year as the Vocational Service Chair for High School. Having an extensive background in this field we are thrilled that she has joined our team. Students have had wonderful internships this year with an incredible range of job experiences. The main themes highlighted at the fair translate into hundreds of different job descriptions.
Internships and vocational services are a big part of the Cooke curriculum. Similar to the Academy, SKILLs internships led by Jen Dinney, provide students with curriculum and hands on vocational experiences. These internships are paid which helps direct our banking and budgeting units in math. Student are learning in real time what it means to work and keep a job. The varying experiences help them to determine their own life path and goals and look forward to a future in the working world.
Everyone is invited to come out on June 1, and enjoy an event that brings the Cooke community together for a fun-filled afternoon that’s great for body and mind! This is a school wide fundraiser and we want all families to participate. This walk-a-thon is not about the number of laps walked, it is about showing your support for our school.
