Inclusive Community Classes at Cooke

Cooke’s Alumni Association hosts classes designed to provide a diverse range of educational opportunities that cater to individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. Join us to discover new areas of interest, forge meaningful connections, and empower yourself with knowledge. These classes are open to all members of the community.

Culinary Explorers – Fall 2023 Series

October 2nd, 16th, 23rd, 30th / November 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th / December 4th, 11th

Nutritious Palate: Healthy Meal Planning and Food Exploration

9:30am – 10:45am 

Registration Fee: $312.50

Nutritious Palate: Healthy Meal Planning and Food Exploration is an introductory course that aims to provide attendees with a foundational understanding of nutrition, meal planning, and the exploration of healthy food options. This course is designed for individuals who are interested in improving their dietary choices, developing practical skills for meal planning, and expanding their knowledge of nutritious and delicious food options. This class will include trips to the grocery store. 

Safe and Sound in the Kitchen: Mastering Kitchen Safety Practices

10:45 am – 12:00 pm 

Registration Fee: $312.50

Safe and Sound in the Kitchen: Mastering Kitchen Safety Practices is a class designed to educate attendees on essential safety and sanitation skills in the kitchen. This course focuses on promoting a safe working environment, minimizing risks, and preventing accidents and injuries. Attendees will learn practical techniques and guidelines to ensure safe practices while handling kitchen equipment, using appliances, and working with food.

Lunchtime Delights: Mastering the Art of Lunch Making

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Registration Fee: $375

Lunchtime Delights: Mastering the Art of Lunch Making focuses on teaching fundamental cooking skills and techniques that will empower attendees to prepare delicious meals with confidence. Attendees will learn practical cooking techniques such as sauteing, boiling, baking and roasting. They will learn how to control heat and basic cooking times. Attendees will also have an opportunity to develop proper knife handling and basic cutting method skills. Meals created will meet all dietary needs of those in attendance.

Music Mania 

4:15pm – 5:00pm (on ZOOM)

Registration Fee: $120

This workshop is remote. You will participate on Zoom from your home. 

Join us for a journey of music appreciation like never before! This workshop is your ticket to discovering the musical genres, history, and cultural significance. This engaging workshop incorporates interactive games and activities to make your exploration of music both educational and fun.

 Comic Book Making

3:15pm – 4:30pm

In the comic book making class attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to make their own comic book! We will explore the history behind comics and how they are made from the beginning. We will be using iPad Pro’s with apple pencils to create the illustrations and Adobe Photoshop to create the ultimate design for the layout of each page for printing. Attendees will leave this class with their individually created comic books to add to their portfolios and to share with friends and family! 

Rhythmic Grooves: Karaoke & Dance Fusion

Unleash your inner performer and get ready to groove in the Karaoke & Dance Fusion workshop! This exciting course combines the joy of karaoke singing with the exhilaration of dance, creating a dynamic and engaging experience for all. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or a first-time dancer, this class welcomes everyone to come together, have fun, and build confidence in both singing and dancing.

Reading the World: Current Events and Skillful Reading

9:30am – 10:30am

Registration Fee: $250

This class combines current events with the development of essential reading skills. Through engaging discussions and close reading exercises, you will explore various topics such as politics, technology, science, sports, and entertainment. The class focuses on strengthening reading proficiency by practicing strategies like identifying main ideas, understanding supporting details, and vocabulary development. We will incorporate interactive activities and discussions to encourage active participation and engagement. This course will not only provide you with a broader understanding of current events but also provide you with an opportunity to improve your critical thinking and analytical skills. 

Navigating Independence: Community Safety, Public Transportation, and Leisure Trip Planning 

10:30am – 11:30am

Registration Fee: $250

This class provides attendees with the essential knowledge and skills to navigate their communities confidently and plan exciting leisure trips. This course focuses on three key areas: community safety, public transportation navigation, and leisure trip planning. Participants will learn practical strategies for personal safety, gain confidence in using public transportation systems, and develop the ability to plan leisure trips.

Discovering Cultural Treasures: Exploring Museums and Institutions

11:30am – 12:30pm

Registration Fee: $250

Through engaging lessons and immersive experiences, students will learn about the fascinating world of art, history, science, and culture as showcased in these museums and cultural institutions. 

The Art of Self Care

12:30pm – 2:00pm

Registration Fee: $375

This class is designed to introduce you to the practice of self-care.Through a blend of practical techniques and creative exploration, you will explore various practices and strategies to nurture your physical, mental, and emotional health. From mindfulness and relaxation exercises to self-reflection and self-expression through art and writing, this class encourages you to work on self-awareness, develop healthy habits, and prioritize your self-care. 

Healthy Relationships & Sexual Wellness (Part 1)

3:15pm – 4:30pm

Registration Fee: $375

Dates: Sept 21st, 28th / Oct 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th / Nov 2nd, 16th, 30th / Dec 7th, 14th, 21st

In this workshop, we explore the essential aspects of building positive relationships and maintaining sexual health. This informative and inclusive course covers topics such as communication skills, consent, understanding boundaries, body parts, sexual feelings, and more. Through open discussions, interactive activities, and accurate information, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices, foster healthy connections, and prioritize their overall well-being. Part 1 will focus on relationship topics such as different types of relationships, public and private, decision making, communication, flirting and dating, healthy vs unhealthy relationships.  Part 2 (Winter 2024) will focus on sexual health topics such as body parts, caring for your body, sexual feelings, attraction and acts, communication and decision making about sex, and consent.

Anime Adventures

Join us for a thrilling adventure learning about the world of anime! We will discover captivating stories and imaginative characters, while learning about the art of animation. This workshop will include screenings, creative activities, and engaging discussions.

Alumni Association Services

Cooke’s Alumni Association supports graduates of the Cooke School. We support a community of over 300 graduates and their families, with the following goals in mind: provide Alumni with regular opportunities for social, recreational and educational experiences; build community among Cooke Alumni and their families; provide Alumni and families ongoing transition and vocational support; promote awareness of the Cooke School and Institute through alumni community outreach and tracking the success of our graduates.
